Cars That Get Good Gas Mileage
by Gant Kolby

With gas prices in the U.S. hovering around four dollars a gallon most Americans are now paying close attention on gas mileage when purchasing a new or used car. Here are a few of my top picks for new and used vehicles that get decent gas mileage for their owners. My picks are based on mileage, reliability and resale value.

Subcompact cars:
Toyota Yaris: 29 mpg city, 35 mpg highway
Mini Cooper: 22 mpg city, 30 mpg highway

Compact cars:
Toyota Corolla: 28 mpg city, 37 mpg highway
Honda Civic: 40 mpg city, 45 mpg highway

Hybrid cars
Toyota Prius Hybrid: 48 mpg city, 45 mpg highway
Honda Civic Hybrid: 40 mpg city, 45 mpg highway

Hatchbacks and small station wagons
Honda Fit: 27 mpg city, 34 mpg highway

Choose a car that suits your needs. If you very seldom have passengers back seat comfort might not be a big factor and you like a sporty looking car, then the Mini Cooper might be a good fit for you. If you carry two or three passengers, consider a Toyota Corolla or Honda civic. If getting the most mileage from your hard earned money and the environment is an important issue with you, then consider one of the Hybrid models.
